Plastic weight calculator
Work out the theoretical weight of engineering plastic sheet and rod from their dimensions. Plastic densities range from 0.91 g/cm³ (PP) to 2.16 g/cm³ (PTFE), so two parts of the same size can differ in weight by more than a factor of two.
Calculate the weight from the size, or the number of sheets needed for a target weight. Your selections are added to the quote message automatically.
Size: 2 × 1000 × 2000 mm, quantity: 1 (theoretical ~8.64 kg)
How is plastic weight calculated?
Weight is volume multiplied by density. With all dimensions in millimetres, the result in kilograms is (ρ: density in g/cm³; 2.16 for PTFE; 1.41 for POM and 0.93 for PE-1000):
- Sheet: thickness × width × length × ρ ÷ 1,000,000
- Round bar: 0.7854 × diameter² × length × ρ ÷ 1,000,000
Example: a 10 × 1000 × 1000 mm PTFE sheet = 10 × 1000 × 1000 × 2.16 ÷ 1,000,000 = 21.6 kg.

Frequently asked questions
How much does PTFE sheet weigh?
PTFE has a density of 2.16 g/cm³, so 1 m² of 1 mm sheet weighs 2.16 kg. A 10 × 1000 × 1000 mm PTFE sheet therefore weighs about 21.6 kg and a 20 × 1000 × 1000 mm sheet about 43.2 kg.
Which engineering plastics are the lightest and heaviest?
Polypropylene (PP, 0.91 g/cm³), PE-1000 (0.93 g/cm³) and PE-500 (0.95 g/cm³) are lighter than water. PTFE (2.16 g/cm³) and glass-fibre epoxy (FR4, 1.9 g/cm³) are the heaviest engineering plastics; a PTFE part weighs about 2.4 times as much as the same part in PP.
How much does 1 metre of cast nylon rod weigh?
Cast nylon (PA6G) has a density of 1.15 g/cm³. 1 metre of Ø50 mm rod weighs about 2.26 kg and Ø100 mm about 9.03 kg.
Why can the delivered weight differ from the calculated weight?
The calculator gives the theoretical weight. The actual weight can differ slightly because of the thickness, diameter and wall-thickness tolerances allowed by the standards and the cutting allowance. For products sold by weight, we invoice on the actual weight as weighed.
