Carbon-filled PTFE Tube

Thick-walled PTFE tube filled with 25 % carbon, also known as carbon-filled Teflon tube. It is used for machining bushes, piston rings and wear rings; because it is hollow, it saves material and machining time compared with solid rod.

Carbon-filled PTFE

PTFE filled with 25 % carbon; black in colour. Compared with unfilled PTFE, the carbon filler reduces deformation under load (cold flow) and increases compressive strength and wear resistance. Its thermal and electrical conductivity are higher, so it dissipates static and is not used for electrical insulation. It largely retains PTFE’s chemical resistance and its service range of −200 °C to +260 °C, and is preferred for water-lubricated or dry-running bearings and piston rings.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between carbon-filled and white (unfilled) PTFE?

The carbon filler reduces PTFE’s tendency to deform under load (cold flow) and increases its compressive strength, wear resistance and heat conduction. Unfilled PTFE remains the choice where electrical insulation or the lowest possible friction is needed. Carbon-filled PTFE conducts electricity, so it is not used for insulating parts.

Where is carbon-filled PTFE used?

It is preferred where load and friction act together: water-lubricated or dry-running bearings, piston and compressor rings, pump and valve parts, and wear rings.

What information do you need for a quotation?

The outside diameter, inside diameter, length and quantity are enough. If you have a drawing of the part, we can also work from the drawing.

Why can the invoiced weight differ from the calculated weight?

The calculator gives the theoretical weight. The actual weight varies with dimensional tolerances and cutting allowance; we invoice on the actual weight as weighed.
