1.2767 Tool Steel
Cold-work tool steel with about 4 % nickel and very high toughness (45NiCrMo16). It withstands impact and pressure and hardens well in large sections, so it is used for heavy cutting, bending and coining tools. Its good polishability also makes it a choice for plastic moulds.

Frequently asked questions
Why choose 1.2767?
Its roughly 4 % nickel gives it very high toughness, so it resists cracking and breakage under sudden impact and high pressure. Its wear resistance is lower than that of 1.2379, so it is chosen for tools where impact rather than wear is the deciding factor.
At what hardness is 1.2767 used?
Hardened from 840–870 °C and tempered, it is usually used at a working hardness of 48–54 HRC. The standard supply condition is soft annealed, and machining is done in this condition.
Can 1.2767 be polished?
Yes. It is very well suited to mirror polishing, texturing and EDM, which is why it is also used for plastic mould inserts that need a bright finish.
Can 1.2767 be nitrided?
It is not usually nitrided. Hard chrome plating is preferred to increase wear and corrosion resistance at the surface.
What are the designations for 1.2767?
1.2767: 45NiCrMo16, AISI ≈ 6F7, JIS ≈ SKT6. Any of these designations can be used in your enquiry; we will match the correct material.
Why can the invoiced weight differ from the calculated weight?
The calculator gives the theoretical weight. The actual weight varies with dimensional tolerances and cutting allowance; we invoice on the actual weight as weighed.
What information should I send for a quote?
