Stainless Steel Hexagon Bar
304 and 316 stainless steel hexagon bar for turned parts with a hexagonal section such as nuts, unions, nipples and fittings. 15 mm A/F and below is sold in full lengths; larger sizes are cut to the length you need.
Grades and sizes
304
The most widely used austenitic stainless steel (18/8 chromium-nickel). It resists corrosion in atmospheric, water and food environments and is easy to form and weld. It is used for food and catering equipment, architectural work and general engineering. In chloride environments (seawater, brine) 316 is preferred because of the risk of pitting; for heavy-section welded fabrication the low-carbon 304L (1.4307) can be requested.
Bar standards: EN 10088-3 · ASTM A276 / A479
316
Austenitic stainless steel containing 2.0–2.5% molybdenum. The molybdenum gives markedly better resistance than 304 to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments (seawater, brine, chlorinated chemicals). It is preferred for marine, chemical, pharmaceutical and food equipment. For welded fabrication it can also be requested as the low-carbon 316L (1.4404).

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between 304 and 316?
Unlike 304, 316 contains 2.0–2.5% molybdenum. Molybdenum markedly improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments (seawater, brine, chlorinated cleaning chemicals, swimming pools). For indoor, food and general fabrication applications without chlorides, 304 is sufficient and more economical.
Is stainless steel magnetic?
304, 316 and 310S are austenitic stainless steels and are practically non-magnetic in the annealed condition. Slight magnetism can appear after cold working such as bending, drawing or deep drawing; this does not change the grade or its corrosion resistance.
What are the designations for 304 and 316?
304: 1.4301, AISI 304, UNS S30400, JIS SUS304. 316: 1.4401, AISI 316, UNS S31600, JIS SUS316. Any of these designations can be used in your enquiry; we will match the correct material.
Why can the invoiced weight differ from the calculated weight?
The calculator gives the theoretical weight. The actual weight varies with dimensional tolerances and cutting allowance; we invoice on the actual weight as weighed.
What information should I send for a quote?
We only need the grade, size (across flats (A/F) × length), quantity and delivery location. If you fill in the calculator above, these details are added to the WhatsApp message automatically.
