Acetal (POM) vs Nylon (PA6): Which Material is More Stable?

POM0.2% Moisture
PA63% Moisture
STABILITYMax POM

MATERIAL DEFINITION

The biggest mistake in selecting engineering plastics is the thought that POM and PA6 can replace each other everywhere. POM (Acetal) is the leader in dimensional stability because its moisture absorption is near zero; it never loses its shape in precision gears and bearings. On the other hand, PA6 (Nylon) attracts moisture due to its structure, which may lead to slight expansion of the part. However, the impact absorption and toughness capacity of nylon are higher than POM. Nylon's toughness is prominent in large-diameter industrial rollers, while acetal's stability is prominent in small gears. Both materials are ready in Point Metal stocks in high-quality, stress-relieved form.
