MATERIAL DEFINITION
Seawater corrosion is the biggest technical challenge for the offshore and shipbuilding sector. CuNi10Fe1Mn (Bafon), a Copper-Nickel alloy, creates a protective and self-renewing oxide layer on its surface as soon as it contacts water.
This layer also minimizes the risk of biofouling (attachment of marine organisms). Aluminum Bronze (CuAl10Ni5Fe4), on the other hand, combines this corrosion resistance with steel-like hardness and is used in propeller shafts and areas exposed to cavitation.
Point Metal supplies these alloys for shipyards in Turkey in EN 12449 and ASTM B111 standards from stock or through project-specific production.
